This is the second edition of Choux et néons, the first of which was published by the excellent Bouclard publishing house in 2022 in their 109 collection, and which received a number of glowing reviews from readers and booksellers, a selection of which is presented here. This new edition, within the iskra collection, aims to create a lavishly illustrated paperback by Léopold Prudon.

Read the back cover

Captain Silver, a sort of whimsical and grumpy urban pirate, has found himself in exactly the right situation: a right-hand man/underling/accountant, two Danish henchmen, a parrot, a temperamental mother who laments having such a dim-witted son, and above all, enemies (the 4:37 subway and a certain Chmuz, a famous local merchant). Because you need enemies, loads of them, to exist. In this novel, somewhere between Hook and Goodfellas, adults aren't really adults, pirates aren't really pirates, and the city is a playground almost as vast as the ocean.
To illustrate this story, Léopold Prudon took out his box of felt-tip pens. Travel pens, childhood pens, magic pens. The kind that, beyond the burst of color, always leave that faint trace behind each stroke. A trace that tells a little more than the image itself and makes the pen so precious. With great intelligence and a love for the world, Léopold Prudon thus gives color to humor, substance to emotions, and movement to action.

Extract

"But being a pirate was mostly about getting annoyed by everything and nothing, grumbling for hours, shouting swear words freely, and dancing jigs while clicking your heels. Believing the earth is flat. Talking to the moon. Hiding your secrets in a leather heart. Having eyes washed clean by the storm. And giant fish in your head."

"Captain Silver and his crew will take you on a wild and hilarious adventure. A crazy imagination and a perfect mastery of the absurd. A truly original little gem, just the kind you dream of!"

This novel explores the gravity with which two brothers play at war and then believe in love, silently thwarting heroism and its lost battles. It reads like unpacking a suitcase after a long journey: hands full of small, collected objects, with the bittersweet feeling of having salvaged the best of a bygone era.
